Donor models for Seiko mods
The donor watch determines the case, movement and mod possibilities. Here are the key bases compared.
Seiko SKX007
The SKX007 is the icon of donor watches: affordable, rugged and backed by the largest aftermarket parts ecosystem in existence. Almost any look can be built from it — from Submariner style to a fully custom design.

The SKX009 shares its case and movement with the SKX007 — the difference is the blue-red Pepsi bezel and dark blue dial. As a donor it behaves identically and is perfect for blue or Pepsi builds.
Learn more →Seiko SKX013
If the 42 mm SKX007 is too big, the SKX013 is the answer: same tech, but a compact 38 mm case. The aftermarket is smaller, but it is ideal for clean, classically proportioned mods.

After the SKX was discontinued, the SRPD (5KX) line became the new standard donor. It is available brand new, uses the more modern NH36 movement with day-date and is largely mod-compatible with SKX parts.
Learn more →Seiko 5 (allgemein)
"Seiko 5" is not a single watch but a whole family of affordable automatics with NH movements. Many models work as donors — from the 5KX diver to field and dress variants.
Learn more →Seiko Turtle (SRP777)
The "Turtle" gets its name from the cushion-shaped case that resembles a tortoise shell. The SRP777 and its colour variants are a modern classic and a rewarding donor base: rugged, water resistant to 200 m and backed by a growing parts supply for bezels, dials and inserts.
Learn more →Seiko King Turtle (SRPE05)
The King Turtle takes the Turtle case and upgrades it from the factory: sapphire crystal instead of Hardlex, a ceramic instead of aluminium bezel, and often a textured wave-pattern dial. As a donor it saves exactly the upgrades you would otherwise retrofit on a standard Turtle.
Learn more →Seiko Willard (SPB151 / 6105)
"Captain Willard" is the look named after the watch Martin Sheen wears in Apocalypse Now: the asymmetric 6105 cushion case with a recessed crown. The original is vintage and expensive, the modern SPB151 reissue is premium — but the Willard look itself can also be built as a mod on a more affordable base with the right case and dial.
Learn more →Seiko Monster (SRP / SKX779)
The "Monster" is Seiko's most aggressive series diver: a distinctive toothed bezel, huge lume markers and a chunky case. This unmistakable base is popular with modders when a build needs to stand out — the original's lume performance is legendary.
Learn more →Seiko SPB143 (62MAS-Look)
The SPB143 is Seiko's modern reinterpretation of the first Prospex diver from 1965 (62MAS): a compact 40.5 mm, sapphire crystal and a clean vintage-diver look. The SPB143 itself is a cherished watch and not a typical donor — but the sought-after 62MAS look can be built as a mod on a more affordable base with the right case and sandwich dial.
Learn more →Seiko 5 Sports GMT (SSK)
With the SSK series, Seiko brought a mechanical GMT movement (NH34) to the affordable Seiko 5 Sports line for the first time. The SSK003 with its blue-black bezel is nicknamed "Batman" in the community, the SSK001 comes in black. As a donor, the SSK is the cheapest base for real GMT builds with a second time zone.
