Two different businesses people call "mod companies"

Parts suppliers sell components for you or a watchmaker to assemble. A dial or case listing is not an offer for a complete watch: check movement compatibility, dimensions, included parts and the work still required.

Watch builders sell assembled watches. Our main shop offers assembled models. Compare the actual model, available options, assembly information and seller’s warranty. A builder may offer both complete watches and components, so compare the specific product or service you intend to order.

If you want the assembly experience, compare components or kits. If you want to order a complete watch, start with assembled models or an assembly service.

Five checks for choosing a Seiko mod builder

1. Movement and functions. Look for the exact calibre, not just "automatic" or "Seiko inside". For example, our Mariner Mod Black lists NH35 automatic, GMT Mod Pepsi lists NH34 GMT, and Tona Mod Panda lists VK63 Meca-Quartz. These are specifications of those models. For a chronograph, check its actual timing functions; a subdial layout alone does not establish them.

2. Crystal and fit. Check the crystal and coating specified for the selected model, its case dimensions and the available bracelet or strap sizes. Our sapphire-versus-mineral guide explains material and care differences.

3. Warranty and support. Identify the seller, the warranty provider, duration, covered components and contact procedure. Distinguish a movement warranty from coverage of the entire watch.

4. Shipping and returns. Check the dispatch country, destination, currency, delivery estimate, return eligibility, return postage and any import charges. Use the seller’s actual shipping and return documents.

5. Customer reports you can verify. Look for a dated account about the model and purchase route you are considering. Read how the seller responds to problems, and distinguish a customer’s experience from a retailer’s product description.

Is a Seiko mod company selling fakes?

Should I buy parts and build my own instead?

DIY can suit someone who wants the assembly experience and can check component compatibility. Include tools, spare parts, testing and any professional help in the cost. If you want a finished watch and a single seller to contact about it, compare assembled models instead.

Which movement should the company be using?

Choose the model by the functions you need. The NH35 provides a date display, the NH36 provides day and date, and the NH34 provides a GMT hand for a second time zone.
