A Seiko mod can mean a modified existing watch or a custom watch assembled with a named movement and aftermarket components. These are different starting points: a fresh movement is not a donor watch.
What can be changed?
Depending on the base, a builder may change the dial, hands, bezel, crystal, case or band. Each choice must fit the other components. A dial's style does not establish its calendar functions, and a matching case diameter does not establish that every movement or hand set fits.
A useful specification names the calibre, case and crystal materials, dimensions, band and usable functions. Compare the actual selected version and photographs, rather than treating the word "premium" as a parts list.
Automatic, GMT and quartz options
MedoMods offers models with different movements. An NH35 automatic date watch, an NH34 GMT model and a VK63 Meca-Quartz chronograph are not interchangeable specifications. A chronograph-style NH35 variant does not gain a working stopwatch from its dial design. Use the NH35, GMT and VK63 guides to compare the functions you need.
Do not assume that every original Seiko contains the same calibre as a custom build. For example, Seiko lists 4R36 for its original SRPD55. The model name and the actual movement reference both matter when comparing or modifying a watch.
Care, water resistance and accuracy
Care depends on the actual movement and band material: wipe the watch with a dry, soft cloth, keep leather dry and never operate the crown while the watch is wet. Follow the fitted calibre’s instructions for winding and setting the date. The care guide explains these steps.

TMI specifies a static accuracy range of −20 to +40 seconds per day for NH35A under defined test conditions after full winding. This calibre rating is not a measurement of a finished MedoMods watch. Why choose a custom build?
A custom build can suit someone who wants a particular combination of colour, dial layout, case style and band. Start with what you will wear comfortably and the functions you will use. Configuration choices depend on the chosen base.
Assembly requires suitable tools, compatibility checks and testing. If your interest is the finished watch, compare assembled models. If it is the assembly process itself, review the components, tools and testing still required before buying a DIY kit.
How much should a Seiko mod cost?
Price alone does not establish the movement, steel grade, crystal, lume or assembly quality. For each offer, compare:
- The exact watch and selected variant, with its current price and currency.
- Case, crystal, band and movement specifications.
- Shipping option and destination-dependent import charges.
- Seller support, warranty scope and return conditions.
