Seiko Day-Date Style Day Mod - Royal Blue Arabic

Deep royal blue with silver numerals in Arabic-Indic script: the DAY MOD - ROYAL BLUE ARABIC is the darker, more serious take on the Arabic-numeral line. Inside the case an NH35 automatic movement with a date display does the work, and the date appears at 3 o'clock under a magnifier. There is no day-of-the-week display. Up at 12 o'clock, a window shows Arabic script. The 316L stainless steel case measures 40 mm and comes with a fluted bezel and sapphire crystal.

A blue with depth

Royal blue is strong without being loud. The sunburst finish gives the surface movement: in shade the dial looks almost midnight blue, in direct light it brightens, and fine rays fan out from the centre to the edge. The silver Eastern Arabic numerals stand out in clear contrast against the dark ground. In the evening especially, under warm light, the pairing of blue and silver shows at its best. Super-LumiNova serves as the luminous material, so the time stays readable when light is low.

Two blues and a grey

Alongside this watch there is a baby blue sister with the same script. She is pale, almost icy, and feels like summer; the royal blue is her counterpart for suits and evenings. The grey Arabic DAY MOD has a dial that shifts from slate to silver, set stones as indices and a 40.5 mm case. If you want colour with a calm character, the royal blue is the pick.

Case and back

40 mm of stainless steel is a size that slips under a shirt cuff and still has presence. Sapphire crystal covers the dial and protects it from scratches. On the back, an exhibition case back shows the NH35, and the crown screws down.

The bracelet

It wears a stainless steel President bracelet: three rows with a polished centre, a safety folding clasp and adjustable length. Royal blue goes well with grey, white, camel and dark brown, whether with a blazer or a jumper.

The movement

The NH35 winds itself with the motion of your wrist and can also be wound by hand at the crown. When you set the time, the seconds hand stops, so the time is right to the second.
