Oak Mod - Blacked Out Skeleton

Black from the bracelet to the bezel, with an open dial at the centre: on the OAK MOD Blacked Out Skeleton the movement lies exposed across the whole surface and shimmers grey behind black bars. A black outer ring with white minute marks frames the opening. On it sit white baton markers, doubled at twelve o'clock, and baton hands with white filling; the thin seconds hand is pale. Because everything else stays dark, these white marks are the only thing that shines out of the watch. It has no date window.

Three black OAK MODs, one open dial

Two further models in the line wear the same black case with a black bracelet. Both have a closed dial with a waffle pattern of small squares: one with a date at three o'clock, the other with three subdials, two pushers and a date between four and five o'clock. Only this watch opens the dial and shows what is working underneath. If you like black but find a calm, single-colour surface too quiet, you get depth here in place of pattern.

Case and bracelet in one tone

The case measures 41 mm and is made of brushed 316L stainless steel in black. The octagonal bezel with its eight screws is black and brushed as well, and the integrated link bracelet sits flush, so no obvious seam remains between case and bracelet. The bracelet is adjustable and closes with a butterfly safety clasp. Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal covers the dial, the hands are coated with luminous material, and on the reverse a clear exhibition case back opens the view of the movement.

How we would wear it

We see it with dark clothing where the watch is meant to belong, not to gleam: a black roll-neck, a leather jacket, a dark shirt, in the evening as much as day to day. Against light fabrics it becomes a hard contrast, which we find works best with white and grey. At 41 mm and with its broad integrated bracelet it makes a strong appearance; thanks to the uniform black it still looks, to our eye, a little more compact than a pale model of the same size. This model comes in a single version.
