Seiko Day-Date Style Pistachio

Light pistachio green on a smooth dial, with nothing but steel tones around it: the DAY MOD - PISTACHIO is the fresh, bright watch of the line. The hours belong to ten baton markers, light inside and framed in steel colour; above the green travel steel-coloured baton hands with a light filling and a thin seconds hand, while the date at 3 o'clock is read through a magnifier. The weekday and the date both advance, with the weekdays shown in English. The 40 mm of the case are stainless steel, the bezel is fluted, and the link bracelet lines up three rows with the centre one polished. Because the dial has no sunburst finish, the green stays even and calm in any light.

A green that stays light

Pistachio green is not a signal colour. It lies between mint and sage, has a hint of yellow and therefore looks soft rather than cool. On the smooth dial there are no rays and no texture, so the colour stands flat and even; the black lettering gives it hold. The markers carry luminous material and take over when the light fades. What it goes with

We see the Pistachio as a watch for spring and summer: with a linen shirt, light chinos, white sneakers, and also with a beige or light grey suit. The fluted bezel and the steel tone keep it formal enough for the office. If you usually wear black, blue or silver on your arm, you get a colour here that is noticed without shouting. At 40 mm it has a medium diameter that does not get in the way in daily wear.

Two watches in the line share its steel-coloured case and the baton markers. The grey one is built the same way but has a mid-grey sunburst dial and dark grey hands; it is the inconspicuous one of the three. The black one has a smooth dial like the Pistachio, yet sits on a five-row bracelet and so looks finer-linked and stricter. A light, coloured dial is something only this one has among the three.
