Dial & Design

Black and rose gold is a pairing this style of chronograph has always worn well, and it works here for the same reason it always has: warm metal on a dark ground reads clearly and looks expensive without shouting. The three rose-gold subdials break up the black surface into a balanced layout, the applied baton indices give the dial depth that printed markers cannot, and the rose-gold hands stay easy to find at a glance. Around the outside, the black tachymeter insert is scaled in rose gold and marked UNITS PER HOUR, the detail that ties the watch back to its stopwatch origins. The dial itself is smooth, the three subdials carry fine grooves, a triangle takes the place of the twelve, and the black bezel has a gloss finish. Case & Crystal

The whole case is rose-gold-coloured: 316L stainless steel with a matching finish. Across it measures 40 mm, in height approximately 12 mm, which keeps the chronograph wearable and still stops it feeling thin. Above it sits sapphire crystal, which resists scratches and keeps the busy dial legible from any angle. Water resistance is rated to 5 ATM. The strap runs from approximately 14.5 cm to 22 cm and ships with an adjusting tool for at-home sizing.

Movement

A Seiko VK63 Meca-Quartz powers the watch. The chronograph is fully functional: starting, stopping and resetting run as intended through the two rose-gold-coloured pushers.

On the Wrist

The black rubber strap holds the palette together, gives the watch its sport-watch credibility and on warm days is far more pleasant to wear than metal on the wrist. It also lets the rose gold do the talking, since the strap stays quietly in the background instead of competing with the case. Its 40 mm do not crowd the wrist: the Tona sits with confidence, and the rose gold stays an accent instead of an announcement. Two sister models share the black dial: one wears a bezel of multicoloured stones on a rose-gold-coloured band, the other stays steel-coloured throughout with silver-grey subdials. This version is the one with the black bezel, the rose-gold-coloured scale and rubber; we see it with a dark shirt as readily as with a polo.
