Square, steel-coloured and flat on the arm: the CARRÉ MOD - STEEL has an angular case with rounded corners and eight visible screws set into its smooth bezel. The white dial shows black Roman numerals at all twelve hours, a square minute track in the middle and two blue sword hands. Case and five-row link bracelet are made of polished, uncoated 904L stainless steel, and a blue cabochon sits in the crown. It is driven by the Seiko TMI VD78 quartz movement and comes in 27 mm or 31 mm.
Nothing is printed on the dial beyond what you need to read the time. The Roman numerals follow the square instead of a circle, which places them closer together than on a round watch. The fine minute track inside repeats the shape of the case on a small scale. Below the centre the white surface stays empty, and the dial carries no wording. The blue hands are the only colour on the white and find their counterpart in the stone of the crown.
The case is polished and has no coating: what you see is the steel itself. The eight screws of the bezel are part of the design and sit in pairs on each side. Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal lies above the dial; on the reverse, a glass back opens the view onto the movement. Water resistance: 5 ATM.
The bracelet in 904L stainless steel has five rows of staggered links and is polished like the case. It joins almost without a step, so watch and bracelet read as one piece. The butterfly safety clasp lies flat on the wrist and adds no bulk.
At 27 mm the watch wears quietly, at 31 mm with more presence. Both remain slim enough to slip under a cuff. We see the smaller size more as a jewellery watch and the larger one as a daily companion with a shirt, a blouse or a t-shirt.
The Carré exists in two further executions built the same way: one gold-coloured throughout, one in rose-gold colour. The steel-coloured one is the coolest of the three. To our eye it is the easiest to combine with silver jewellery and with clothes in grey, blue and black.
Inside sits the Seiko TMI VD78, a Japanese quartz calibre. It is fed by a battery that lasts up to 36 months depending on use. You do not have to wind the watch.

The Carré Mod Steel does without any gold glow: case, bezel, crown and the five-row bracelet with its polished, staggered links are all steel-coloured. Eight screws sit in pairs on the four sides of the smooth bezel, whose corners are rounded. On the white, smooth dial black Roman numerals trace all twelve hours, and a square minute track limits the surface towards the inside. Against the neutral metal the blue sword hands and the blue stone in the crown stand out most clearly, since no warm tone lies in between. There is no date window, nor a visible seconds hand; the eye stays on numerals and hands. This tone is closest to cool colours, to grey and white, and the shiny bracelet throws back plenty of light. The eight screws barely stand out from the metal because they share the tone of the bezel.
The same square in warm tones is shown by Carré Mod Rose Gold and Carré Mod Gold; the difference lies in the share of red, yellowish for yellow gold, coppery pink for rose gold. The VD78 quartz movement, dial and hands remain unchanged, 27 mm and 31 mm exist here too, only the metal changes. Built quite differently is Seiko Mod Ladies Champagne: round, at 26 mm with a two-tone case, a bezel full of set stones, a golden-yellow sunburst dial, light baton indices and a magnifier over the date. Anyone who likes a calm, single-colour watch without sparkle finds it in the steel square; anyone looking for a round dial with a date and stones takes the Champagne watch as a guide.
