DAY MOD - BERRY ROMAN

Deep berry magenta is not a colour you expect on a day-date watch, which is exactly why this one holds a glance longer than it should. The DAY MOD Berry Roman dial sits at #990746: nearly black in shadow, and under direct light it opens into a saturated wine-berry tone with a clear magenta core. On top of it sits a layout borrowed from classic dress watches — roman numerals supported by slim baton markers. That tension between a conservative face and an unconventional colour is the whole point. Every piece is hand-assembled at MedoMods in Germany.

The movement

Inside runs an automatic movement with a combined day and date display. It winds itself from the motion of your wrist, so there is no battery to replace and nothing to plan for. Day and date share one place on the dial and give you the information that actually matters during a working week, without a second window competing for space.

Case and crystal

40 mm of stainless steel: enough presence to be noticed, flat enough to slide under a shirt cuff. A sapphire crystal sits over the dial, protecting exactly the kind of dark, saturated surface where a scratch would show first. The screw-down crown keeps the case sealed, and 5 ATM covers rain and handwashing. The exhibition caseback leaves the mechanics visible from behind.

Dial and design

On a silver dial, roman numerals tend to dissolve into the background. Here the opposite happens: the deep, saturated berry absorbs stray light, so the pale numerals cut hard against it and the V, X and I shapes keep their edges instead of blurring. The baton markers between them keep the rhythm calm and stop the dial from becoming busy. Super-LumiNova on the indices holds the hour positions after dark.

On the wrist

Berry reads differently depending on where you are. In daylight the magenta comes forward; under warm indoor light it drops back into something closer to burgundy. The steel bracelet comes as President, Oyster or Jubilee — the finer links of President and Jubilee scatter light and play into the colour, while Oyster keeps the whole watch more matter-of-fact. If you want something other than another black or blue dial, but nothing loud, this is the middle ground.
