DAY MOD - MAHOGANY ROMAN

A red so deep it reads as black until the light hits it. The DAY MOD Mahogany Roman carries a very dark red-brown dial that sits close to espresso in the shade and only opens up into warm wine tones in direct sun. The Movement

Inside is an automatic movement with a combined day and date complication. It winds itself from the motion of your wrist, so there is no battery to replace and nothing to plan around. Weekday and date share the window, which means one glance answers both questions instead of two.

Case & Crystal

A 40 mm stainless steel case with a screw-down crown and 5 ATM water resistance, built for rain, splashes and washing your hands without a second thought. Sapphire crystal sits over the dial and takes the everyday knocks that would otherwise dull a dark surface. The exhibition caseback leaves the mechanism in view.

Dial & Design

Roman numerals behave differently on a dial this dark. Against silver they read as a hard block of contrast; against mahogany they float, thin pale strokes drawn against the depth of the colour. They pick up whatever warm light is in the room and hold it. Slim baton markers fill the spaces between the numerals, keeping the layout open instead of crowded. Super-LumiNova on the indices takes over once the light goes.

On the Wrist

Forty millimetres is the size that slides under a cuff and still holds its own over a knit sleeve. The dark dial makes the watch read slightly more compact than the number suggests, which is why this colour tends to suit smaller wrists better than a pale dial of the same diameter. The steel bracelet comes as President, Oyster or Jubilee: President for the softest drape, Oyster for the plainest, most utilitarian line, Jubilee for the finest link pattern next to that warm brown-red.
